Father’s day: a short anecdote by Mehdi Amiri translated from Farsi

“Friends, everyone is aware that in most countries, this Monday is Mother’s Day.

My two daughters have been planning for days on how to express their love and affection for their mother in the best possible way. They have been asking me for ideas several times:

“Daddy, what should we get for Mommy this year?”

I usually suggest a bouquet of flowers, but they are not happy with that!

They say that they can’t give her flowers every year. This year, they want to give her a really beautiful gift!

This morning, while I was taking them to school, Parmis said, “Daddy, there are only a few days left and we still haven’t found anything!”

I said, “Look, I’ll ask you a question. If you answer it correctly, we’ll get whatever you want for Mommy. But when you don’t know the answer, we won’t even get her flowers!”

She asked if the question was difficult.

I said, “No, not at all!”

She said, “Okay, then go on, ask me.”

I said, a very simple qustion, just tell me, when is Father’s Day?”

She was uncertain and didn’t know what to say, didn’t know the answear!  neither did I, to be honest!

I said, “See, you don’t even know that there is a Father’s Day!”

She said, “Who says that?”

I said, “Well, I am all ears, young lady. I am waiting.”

She said, “It is today, Papa!”

I said, “Today is Father’s Day?!”

She said (with a beautiful smile on her face), “Sure it is. For daughters, every day is Father’s Day!”

With tears in my eyes, I said, “You made my day, my little Angel. You certainly did.”
